Here at BB HQ we love a bit of fashion, so every Friday we’ll bring you a fashion feast….this week we are inspired by peplums, which have crept back into fashion again. Originally from the 1940s and 50s, they had a revival in the 80s (check out eBay and vintage stores for some fab peplum dresses), and this Spring they’re back. They come on skirts, jackets, dresses and tops, and are great for emphasising curves, and giving you hips if you have none! We love Joan, Elizabeth, Gene and Marilyn rocking all the different peplum styles. What would you choose?

Bombshells wouldn’t be bombshells without red lipstick, agreed?! So, every week, I’m going to bring you my favourite red. It might be a new release, it might be an old favourite I’ve fallen in love with again. But whatever it is, it will always be a gorgeous red!

This week I decided to mix it up a bit, and record a short ‘Red of the Week‘ video. I hope you find it as funny as I did when I watched it back! I got the name of the lipstick wrong, my hair looks a mess, and I have bags under my eyes, but I had a laugh to myself making it!
The lovely red lipstick this week is Rouge Dior Ara Red 999, and although I love the bright red, it was a wee bit ‘slippy’ over all, and not as long-lasting as I’d like. Now tune in!

How much have I fallen in love with Guerlain recently? Loads. This beautiful old brand have one of my favourite ever products, Rouge G lipsticks, which I have reviewed on here before. What I love most about them is their vintage -style clever flip tops with concealed mirror.

Now Guerlain have transferred this brilliant invention to Noir G De Guerlain - the mascara version of Rouge G lipstick! Noir G is also refillable – how fantastic an idea is that?

You just pull the top to reveal the refill. There’s a little click on the top to release the mascara case, but the lovely Guerlain PR assured me that this can be done at counter for you if you wish.

And, with most of us keeping our mascaras for far too long (the recommended throw-out time is every THREE months!), the refillable idea is just superb.

Why, that's an awfully big mirror, Marilyn? Try Guerlain's Rouge G or Noir G instead...!

Playing with my new Noir G mascara and my Rouge G lips tick got me thinking about those gorgeous vintage lipstick holders.

I have a few of them – one Kigu style that the lipstick slipped into, and one lovely gold tone Stratton one that clips on to any lipstick and lifts up to reveal a mirror.

My Kigu one was a gift from my lovely leading man,and my Stratton came from a car boot sale for a brilliant 50p!!

I found a few similar on Ebay, although they’re a bit more pricey. Get scouring those boot sales this weekend, Bombshells!

Oh, as for the Guerlain mascara itself it’s lengthening, volumizing and curling. It really does add length, and it has the most divine rose scent, created by the House of Guerlain just for this mascara!

Noir G is initially £35 and then it’s £19 for the refill, which makes it a pretty decent priced top end mascara.

Available at Harrods now, and nationwide from John Lewis, House of Fraser and Debenhams from February 1.

Here are those fabulous vintage finds from Ebay:

Sometimes I swoon at beauty products, simply because they are so beautiful! How lovely is this new Guerlain Abeille Royale Youth Serum? This photo doesn’t do it justice. And you need a dressing table/vanity unit like Miriam Hopkins’ to display it on, don’t you think?!

It’s a gorgeous, weighty glass bottle with a gold coloured top, which you twist off,and this reveals a dropper, then its a little push on the gold button and the correct amout of serum drops on to your hand, ready to be applied.

Guerlain will look gorgeous on your dressing table....

It’s very decadent, very heavily scented, and very Guerlain. I’ve not been overly familiar with this grand old beauty brand, but I am really falling in love with it at the moment!

This Youth Serum gives ‘firming lift and wrinkle correction’. It focuses on the presence of skin trauma, what Guerlain call ‘micro-tears’ in the skin tissue, which apparently cauyse the dermis to ‘sink in’ and are responsible for skin ageing. This lovely serum, full of Pure Royal Concentrate – a mix of honey and royal jelly from France, works to help repair wrinkles and promote tissue firmness.

I’ve not used it for long, but it feels absolutely gorgeous, and it smells so heavenly and rich. If you’re into clinical products and brands this is not for you. But if you want a sensory experience, then this is it!

Guerlain Abeille Royale Serum 30ml, 50ml, £83 and£114 respectively, johnlewis.com, harrods.com, houseoffraser.co.uk, debenhams.com

Bombshells wouldn’t be bombshells without red lipstick, agreed?! So, every week, I’m going to bring you my favourite red. It might be a new release, it might be an old favourite I’ve fallen in love with again. But whatever it is, it will always be a gorgeous red!
This week’s red is a secret I have been sitting on for MONTHS! I saw the new YSL Glossy Stains last Autumn, and have been sworn to secrecy about them until now. Out on February 14th (that’s Valentine’s Day of course!), this new lip formula is a cross between a gloss and a stain, hence the name.

When you apply it, it’s very liquid and has the feel of a stain, but it gives a SUPER glossy finish, but with no stickiness, and it lasts! It’s a miracle in a bottle! I do love it. I was lucky enough to sample almost all of the shades – all 19 of them – created by Lloyd Simmonds, and to have the product shown and explained to me by the man himself. YSL’s Creative Director Makeup is a genius – wait until you see the Spring colour palette, and the treats in store for summer, but I digress.

Clockwise, from top left: Merle in YSL Glossy Stain 11, application, Chanel's Rouge Laque, YSL Glossy Stain.

The shade here is No11 Rouge Gouache. it’s a bright pink-toned red, and it is perfect for spring. The colour is red, but fresh, if that makes sense, and it lasts. It really does last!

The applicator is short, and angled, with its extra-flat shape ideal for even application – it’s so simple to use, you wonder why no-one has done this before.

The product itself has had some beauty journalists and insiders comparing it to Chanel’s Rouge Laque, but I think the Chanel product is more of a heavy lipstick/gloss, and doesn’t have the stain element. You can see in my photos (that’s Chanel in the bottom right only) how different they look.

So, Golden Globe Best Actress winner Michelle Williams has been nominated for an Oscar for her role in My Week with Marilyn.

Michelle won the Golden Globe for the role just the other week, emulating Marilyn Monroe herself who won two Golden Globes, one in 1960 for Some Like It Hot and one in 1962 for ‘World Film Favorite 1961′, just six months before she died.

Michelle ... Marilyn

She never achieved her much coveted Oscar, and wouldn’t it be ironic if Michelle won it for playing her?

However, we think 16 times nominee Meryl Streep might pip Michelle to it for her role in The Iron Lady playing British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards are on Sunday, February 26, from 11.30pm (GMT) on Sky Movies HD

So, BB creams are well and truly here. The BB doesn’t stand for Beauty Bombshells unfortunately (although our own beauty range, there’s a thought!). It stands for Blemish Balm and if you profess to love beauty and don’t know what this is, then where have you been?

I tell you, these BB creams are all the rage...

They’ve been the beauty buzzword for the last 18 months or so, with Garnier’s Miracle Skin Perfector being the first on the UK market, followed by Boots 17′s Blemish Balm inNovember last year.

Now the big guys are getting involved, and Boots No7 add one to their range as well. It’s not as if the Lauder companies and co haven’t had this product at the ready. They originated in the Far East, and have been sold there for years.

Basically they are a sort of ‘all-in-one’ beauty product. An illuminator, moisturiser and protector all in one. They all have a tint to them, and some come in different shades. You can wear it under your foundation if you like, or you can use it like a tinted moisturiser, and add a bit of concealer where you need it. This is how I wear them.

On counter on January 25, is Boots No7′s Beautiful Skin BB Cream (1. £15) which is a 4-in-1 formula to even and enhance skin tone, disguise imperfections, banish blemishes, and give SPF15 and 5*UVA technology protection from the sun. The No7 version comes in three formats – for Dry/Very Dry, Normal/Oily and Normal/Dry skin.

Estee Lauder’s DayWear BB Anti-Oxidant BB Creme SPF35 (3. £32) comes in two shades, Light and Medium, and is oil-free. It is super-radiant giving, you can see the sheen in the creme when you apply it. Lauder’s version is available now at Selfridges, and nationwide from February. It smells divine as well, with the signature Lauder cucumber scent.

Clinique launch their Age Defense BB Cream SPF30 (2. £25) nationwide on March 2, but you can get it now at clinique.co.uk and also at Harrods. This format, I’ve found, is provides more coverage in the foundation stakes, and they market it to ‘instantly conceals what’s aging you—dark spots, discolouration, acne scars, pores.’ It comes in two shades at the moment, and it’s a bigger 40ml tube.

There are going to be more and more of these in 2012, and if you want Bombshell-beautiful skin I suggest you give them a whirl now!

Bombshells wouldn’t be bombshells without red lipstick, agreed?! So, every week, I’m going to bring you my favourite red. It might be a new release, it might be an old favourite I’ve fallen in love with again. But whatever it is, it will always be a gorgeous red!

Okay, before I begin this week’s red, I am going to apologise. It’s a discontinued shade. I know, I’m sorry, but when I found this in a handbag in my cupboard yesterday, I was reminded of how beautiful it was. It’s rich and creamy, being a Chanel Hydrabase Creme Lipstick, and the colour, Gladiator, is a real orange, scarlet, red, my absolute favourite.

So. I wanted to share it with you. I dunno, maybe we can call Chanel and ask them if they’ll bring it back! I did a little internet search and I did find some on eBay, if you want to buy it. I have around half of mine left, and then I might be on the auction site myself! I think this was out quite a few years ago now, so maybe I shouldn’t be using it at all, but it looks, feels and smells perfectly fine, and isn’t it lovely, don’t you think?!

*And I did use Instagram on my iPad to photograph myself and the lipstick, but I added no filters, I promise!
