How cool is this? It’s called ‘Baton Rouge‘ and is a piece of art from the That’s Grouse: The British Show Exhibition by Australian pop artist, Linton Meagher, which runs in London from May 22 to 29.

How I wish I could be in the capital to see this exhibition. It’s fun and thought provoking. Meagher’s pieces are created from hundreds of shotgun cartridges, bullet casings, imitation lipsticks and surgical scalpels. The marriage of disparate meanings and object is a theme throughout his work – and is particularly evident as repellent objects such as bullets or surgical scalpels are transformed to portray beauty.

I guess it’s asking us to look at the hypocrisies of modern life, and our endless pursuit of things like beauty and thrills. Like a lot of art, it follows the tradition of exploring mass consumerism.If you want to see this piece of art in the flesh and the rest of the exhibition, then the details are below.

Yes, it is another MAC red this week – but the last for a while, I promise. This is one of the classics, Russian Red. It’s part of the new Fashion Sets that you can buy in iconic shades, which we blogged about the other week.

It’s a deep, neutral red, in a lovely matte finish. I like the simplicity of this one. It is what it is. Excuse the pictures of me, I’ve had a rotten cold, hence the lack of posting this week, and my eyes look rather full here!

I didn’t line the lips, just slicked on the Russian Red. I think this red looks good on any skintone. It’s deep enough for darker skintones, and if you are bold enough, it is brilliant against the palest of skins. Keep the rest of your makeup to a minimum to make the red as bold as can be.

One thing I have to say about MAC lipsticks is that I love the smell of them! It’s almost sweet! Have you noticed?! I also love their Matte finish, as it is a truly matte lipstick, just a good old stain of colour, with no unnecessary shine.

Vidal Sassoon lops Mia Farrow's hair off...

Legendary hairdresser Vidal Sassoon died yesterday at the age of 84. Iconic, legendary, genius, innovative, iconoclastic – all of these words have been applied to Vidal, and he certainly was a leader in his field.

When I think of him I have a little laugh to myself. I was aware of the brand, before the man (and he’d have most likely been pleased at that – he was apparently the first hairdresser to put his name on shampoo,etc), and I was quite stunned when I found out that there was an actual, real-life ‘Vidal Sassoon’!!

He created some amazing cuts, geometric in style for main, and contributed to that cool 1960s era with clients like Mary Quant, Twiggy and Mia Farrow.

He created a beautiful bob on Nancy Kwan, his first iconic cut. Short, pixie cuts, and geometric bobs became his trademark.

However, I have to say this: I’ve read countless times today that Vidal ‘created the bob’. Brilliant as he was, he most likely wasn’t  a time traveller, and being born in 1928, I’m not so sure he was responsible for the 1920s bob of Louise Brooks, are you?

I don’t have one of these new compacts, but the gorgeous Tom Ford Bronzing Powder (£65, harrods.com) is a lovely addition to the Private Blend Makeup range. What you can’t see here is that it’s big  you could almost carry it like a clutch bag!

The powder itself is a rare mineral blend of brilliant and energizing sunstone, amber and black tourmaline crystals, in a choice of shimmer (pictured) or matte finish.

I have to say that I did find the matte blue harder to apply than my favourite MAC blue Eye Shadow, Freshwater, which is a Veluxe Pearl finish. Howver, once on and blended with the Pearlised Crystal, I think it looked okay…what do you think? Excuse the odd hair!
