Create a capsule holiday wardrobe with M&Co, put it on the blog, and you could win £100 of M&Co vouchers. Oh, okay then!
So, here’s my entry to this fabulous blogger’s competition. And, of course, it’s got a retro feel about it. M&Co have some fantastic retro pieces. I took inspiration from, of course, Bombshells, and these two bathing bombshells – my mum and my auntie, circa late 50s/early 60s on the beach!
That’s my mum on the right of the photo, with the excellent one-piece, sunglasses and travel bag. And those deckchairs with shades! How much do I covet one of those?!
So, my holiday wardrobe, for under £100 for this competition, began with the brilliant cat’s eye sunglasses, just like my mum’s and my Auntie’s, for £8. And when I spotted the fantastic little makeup bag, with Cher quotes on it, wishing for time travel, I had to include it. And with this retro capsule holiday wardrobe you can sort of turn back time to the 1950s, can’t you?!
Bombshells need to take sunscreen and lipstick to the beach, but you don’t want your lovely Chanel red lolling around at the bottom of a big beach bag, do you? No, you need a cute cosmetic bag in that capsule holiday wardrobe.
My Capsule Holiday Wardrobe from M&Co, clockwise, from top left: Tropical print multiway skirt, £28, visor hat, £10, Tropical print swimsuit £29, Turn Back Time cosmetic bag, £10, Cat’s eyes sunglasses, £8 Total = £85, all M&Co
When I was researching gorgeous Bombshells in swimwear for this post I was drawn to the brilliant trend back in the day of not just a swimsuit or a bikini, but a whole wardrobe of matching pieces. Check out Gene Tierney, top left in the photo below, in her yellow and red matching combo. So, that’s why my capsule holiday wardrobe includes a gorgeous tropical print retro swimsuit (£29) and a matching multiway skirt (£28), which works as a flowing skirt, a sarong, or a dress – how fabulous is that?
Bathing Bombshells, clockwise, from top left: Gene Tierney in marvellous matching beachwear, Marilyn Monroe rocks a white two-piece…and then a gorgeous blue one-piece, Jayne Mansfield has the tiniest waist ever – and excellent yellow swimwear, Rita Hayworth in a beautiful white outfit, and Lauren Bacall in a fabulous one-piece.
A hat is a capsule holiday wardrobe musthave to keep those ageing UVA rays off your face, and I have found the perfect one for my summer holiday this August. The amazing M&Co visor is super retro chic, and it rolls up to fit in your luggage! And it’s just £10. So, there you have my capsule holiday wardrobe – well the beach part of it anyway! M&Co have lots of other fantastic retro-inspired swimwear – some fabulous polka dots were my second choice – and also some really pretty summer dresses with a vintage touch.
I’m off to dream about my summer holidays, and matching swimwear! What would be in your capsule holiday wardrobe?
