We are a day late – but Happy 89th Birthday, Lauren Bacall! The gorgeous Bombshell celebrated her 89th yesterday. Here she is in the 1940s, looking super-stunning!
Lauren Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske in the Bronx, in New York City in 1924. She first emerged as a leading lady in the Humphrey Bogart movie, To Have and Have Not in 1944 and continued in the film noir genre, appearing in Bogart movies The Big Sleep, Dark Passage and Key Largo. She starred in How to Marry a Millionaire with Marilyn Monroe in 1953.
Bogie and Bacall were a Hollywood ‘supercouple’, married in 1946 – Bacall was 20, Bogart was 45. She had two children with Bogart – son Stephen Humphrey and daughter Leslie. Lauren and Bogart were friends with Katherine Hepburn and her partner Spencer Tracy – they mixed in non-Hollywood circles, with academics, journalists, politicians and activists.
Bacall had a fling with Frank Sinatra after Bogart’s death, and was married again to actor Jason Robards Jr, who she had a son, Sam, with.
We love Lauren’s effortless style here at BBHQ – check out this post we wrote about it earlier this month
