There is something very pleasing to the touch of Clinique’s latest lip colour product. The Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm (£13.50, www.clinique.co.uk, from April 15) is a chunky little fat pencil, reminding me of those , oversize pencils you used to get with the name of the place you were holidaying in written on the side when you were a kid!
It comes in a range of fabulously named colours – Chunky Cherry, Richer Raisin, Super Strawberry, Whole Lotta HOney, Woppin’ Watermelon, Fuller Fig, Graped-up and Mega Melon. The highly moisturising formula uses a special blend of butters, oils and antioxidants to help protect and pamper lips – Shea Butter, Mango Seed Butter and Jojoba Seed Oil. They’re not about a blast of colour, but are fantastic for the days being a full-on bombshell is too much effort (we know we’re not supposed to admit that, but it happens!), and you just want an easy slick of colour.
The absolute genius thing about them is they simply twist up and down – no need for sharpening!
A rival product to the Chubby Sticks is the new NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil (£17.50, www.asos.com) They too come in a range of cool-named colours – New Lover (pink), Happy Days (coral), Hopi(honey beige), Frivolous(seashell pink), Baroque (raspberry), Club Mix (grape), and are glossy and hydrating and a couple of them have a gorgeous gold hint through them.
They’re both fantastic additions to your spring through summer make-up bag – perfect for the beach. We think, because of the twist up-twist down action, it’d be the Clinique ones we’d go for first this time though!
