Morocco – by Tom Ford and Marlene Dietrich!

2010 February 21

If we were Tom Ford we’d have used Marlene Dietrich in 1930 movie Morocco to advertise his new Private Blend fragrance, Bois Marocain.

In the tuxedo scene, below, where Marlene dresses up as a man, and kisses another woman on the mouth, she’s as decadent as this heady new fragrance from Tom.

Never mind Gary Cooper – gorgeous as he is in this film – Marlene mesmerises here, and was Oscar-nominated for her role – an amazing achievement as it is widely reported that, knowing little English, she spoke her lines phonetically!

We imagine our bombshell would have loved the ambiguity of this latest Private Blend – like many of the others in Tom Ford’s collection, it’s equally at home as a men’s or women’s fragrance.

This lovely scent has top notes of madagascan black pepper, cypress and bergamot that provide fresh peaks and sparkle to balance its darkly refined opulence. Baies rose orpur delivers a spiced floral vibrancy and the rare and precious Moroccan wood, thuya, is at the heart of the fragrance.

An enduring base blends the textures of different cedar essences: cedar atlas with Indonesian patchouli orpur penetrates the skin and mixes with exotic facets of incense, patchouli and earthy vetiver to leave a lasting impression.

It comes in the original private blend packaging, inspired by the dark brown glass colour of the apothecary bottles used in perfume laboratories. The 50ml flacon, pictured (left) looks like a finely crafted chess piece. We expect Marlene may have loved a game of that too!
